New Energy Tax Credits on Home Improvements

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed a stimulus bill (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) that made some significant changes to the energy efficiency tax credits.

There is now a 30% tax credit of up to $1,500 for the purchase of energy efficient windows and doors.

These tax credits are for homeowners that purchase and install specific energy saving products in their homes between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010.  These credits would apply for your 2009 tax return. A tax credit can provide sustantial tax savings by reducing the amount of income tax you have to pay.  If you qualify for a refund, your refund amount could increase by up to $1500.  Consult with your tax advisor for full eligibility requirements.
